Issues with cell phone reception are common while traveling because your phone keeps switching connections between various base stations on the way. If you are traveling to a remote place, you can mostly expect weak cellular signals and a low quality cellular communication as its result.
Installing a cell phone in your vehicle will solve most of your signal issues. Through this article, we attempt to guide you with the installation of a vehicle signal booster.
Carry Out A Trial Installation Prior To Permanent Installation
Carrying out the installation all of a sudden without formulating a clear plan is a bad idea. Before the actual installation, carry out a trial installation by placing the booster in the location where you want to place it, run the cable from the booster to the outdoor and indoor antennas. The step tests whether the components will connect according to your plan.
Place The Booster Unit In The Chosen Location
The booster unit inside a vehicle should be placed in an easily accessible position, probably under the seat. The booster unit should be left undisturbed to ensure its proper functioning.
Place The Magnetic Outdoor Antenna On The Roof Of The Vehicle
If you choose any place to place the tower antenna (outdoor antenna) instead of the roof of the vehicle, there may be chances for oscillation. Say, for instance, you installed the outdoor antenna in the trunk deck lid. The signal from the antenna might cross with the signals coming from the device antenna that broadcasts boosted signals. This happens when the tower antenna (outdoor antenna) picks up the signals of the device antenna through the rear window.
The crossing over of signals of tower antenna and device antenna is known as oscillation. Most of the cell phone boosters come with added features that enable it to auto-detect oscillation. On detecting oscillation, the booster reduces the power and the signal boosting range until the issue is corrected. If the oscillation prevails even after the booster power is reduced, the device shuts down altogether.
Placing a shield between the tower antenna and device antenna is the recommended method to reduce oscillation. This is reason enough for placing the tower antenna on the metallic roof of the vehicle. Increasing the distance between the antennas can also reduce oscillation.
Secure The Device Antenna In A Suitable Location Inside Your Vehicle
To ensure that the boosted signals are equally distributed to all passengers inside the vehicle, place it in a central location.
Run The Cables From The Antennas To The Booster Unit
By ensuring that power is disconnected, connect the antennas to their connection points in the booster unit. Connecting the cables while the booster is powered can damage the booster.
Connect The Power Cord To The Booster
Initially connect one end of the power cord to the booster and connect the other end to the power supply in the second step. Strictly follow this pattern because working with the cable which is already connected to the power supply is dangerous.
You are good to go if all the installation procedures are maintained perfectly.
